In order to bring these programs to the public, we have procured; hand raised and trained these beautiful wolf dogs. Wolf hybrid is the legal term for them, however, scientifically they have not been genetically altered; all dogs are a sub-species of the wolf. Wolf dog advocates do not use the term hybrid and rightly so.
Yes, they are spectacular animals, but they require full time special care, training and attention for their overall physical health and emotional well being. Statistically, 85% of all wolf dogs end up abused, abandoned and rescued by overcrowded sanctuaries or euthanized. In states where it is legal to own them, they are required to be permitted as wild animals. In many cities and states, animal services will not adopt them out.
We do not now, nor will we ever promote the breeding or owning of wolf dogs. Our pups were planned and will be raised and trained for educational purposes, staying with the pack for life. In the future, when times have changed and permanent protections are in place, Shadowland Foundation, Inc. would be honored to participate in programs to reintroduce wolves to the wild throughout the world. In the meantime, much needs to be done through education in order to protect this keystone species in the wild so they may shield our ecosystem from human destruction. This is our mission.
